Andrew D. Klein is a trial attorney and American Arbitration Association (“AAA”) Construction Arbitrator with over 25 years of experience litigating environmental, construction, land use, real estate, and other complex civil cases.
Andy represents owners, developers, contractors, engineers, and architects in a broad range of construction-related disputes, including the development and financing of office buildings, apartment complexes, and farm land; multimillion-dollar residential renovation and construction projects; build-outs of commercial shopping center spaces; construction of telecommunication towers and systems; construction accidents; labor disputes; defective construction and design cases; the remediation of commercial and residential buildings; and mechanics' lien and Prompt Payment Act matters. Andy also negotiates and drafts construction and design contracts for owners, architects, engineers, and contractors on commercial and residential projects.
Andy is highly experienced in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) having arbitrated and mediated cases in AAA, JAMS, NASD, and various state and federal courts.
Andy is also a member of the American Arbitration Association’s (AAA) Panel of Construction Arbitrators for whom he arbitrates all manner of commercial and residential construction-related disputes.
Andy represents clients in environmental matters before Pennsylvania's Environmental Hearing Board and government agencies concerning approvals and permits related to projects throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Andy also represents haulers and manufacturers of hazardous, residual, and municipal waste.
Andy represents clients in a broad range of complex commercial litigation, including land use and real estate; consumer protection; labor and employment; telecommunication; consumer class actions; securities; intellectual property and trade secrets; bankruptcy; and enforcement of judgments.
Andy counsels clients on compliance with state and federal laws and regulations in the following areas: advertising, employment, organized labor, workplace safety, medical records, securities, bidding preferences, real estate, consumer protection, and environmental.
Andy has tried hundreds of cases to verdict in state and federal courts in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and other jurisdictions, and he is highly experienced in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) having arbitrated and mediated cases in AAA, JAMS, NASD, and various state and federal courts.
Before founding KleinSchott, Andy clerked for the Honorable Vincent A. Cirillo, Jr. on the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, spent four years as an Assistant District Attorney for the City of Philadelphia, fifteen years as a member of the commercial litigation group at Faegre Drinker, and ten years with the Land Air Water Legal Solutions law firm. Andy taught as an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania Law School; he served for many years as an investigator for the Philadelphia Bar Association's Commission on Judicial Selection and Retention; and for more than 15 years, he represented a group of abused and neglected siblings as a volunteer child advocate for the Support Center for Child Advocates in Philadelphia. He is a frequent lecturer to the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Bars on various topics, including construction and land use, litigation practice and procedure, collection law, and commercial contracts. He had a regular column in the Legal Intelligence on construction law, was a practitioner contributor to the Tenth Edition of Black's Law Dictionary, and authors the Construction Litigation chapter in: LEXISNEXIS Practice Guide: Pennsylvania Real Estate Litigation (2016-2025 Editions).
Andy graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and the Delaware Law School in Wilmington, Delaware, magna cum laude, where he served as a Note and Comment Editor on Law Review. Andy is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York, as well as before the United States Supreme Court.
